Details of Disappearance:
Taras disappeared from her Pennsylvania home on June 6, 2000. She’d skipped a court hearing for a drunk driving charge and went home. She missed a lunch date and was never seen again.

Three days later, her landlord found her apartment door broken, her answering machine full of worried messages, her cats neglected, and her dog missing. There was blood in her apartment.

Her car was found a few days later in Philadelphia. It had blood inside, and a special dog that sniffs out human remains confirmed that. Parts of the passenger seat were missing.

Before she disappeared, Taras had told people that her former counselor, Antone Herman Wilson, had visited her apartment and they’d had sex. This was against the rules. Wilson was fired from his job the day Taras disappeared.

After his firing, Wilson bought tools (a rasp, file, and nail puller) and was seen on security footage driving Taras’s car with something covered by a blanket in the passenger seat. The blanket was identified as Taras’s. A receipt for the tools was found in her car.

Wilson was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty to murder. He admitted to killing her to keep her quiet about their sexual relationship. He’s serving a long prison sentence, and Taras’s body has never been found.
