- Details of Disappearance:
- On November 13, 1980, two fishermen, Wall and his friend Jeffrey Mays, were last seen 16 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. They’d been fishing in Mays’s sturdy 23-foot boat, which was very hard to sink. Another fisherman helped them fix their boat’s engine earlier that day.
After 1:30 p.m., they vanished. A massive two-week Coast Guard search covering a huge area of ocean turned up nothing – neither the boat nor the men.
Because fishermen sometimes dealt drugs in the off-season, it’s suspected their disappearance might be linked to drugs, but no one was ever charged. The case remains a mystery. Mays’s mother even wrote a book about it, believing her son might be alive in Alaska.
