Details of Disappearance:
Virginia Douglas disappeared on Labor Day weekend 1988. Her husband, Frank, said they drove from their Massachusetts home to Maine. He claimed Virginia went into a department store restroom in Belfast and vanished. He said he searched for her, then bought lingerie for her, claiming it was a “good omen.”

Police found the lingerie in Virginia’s suitcase. They questioned Frank’s story because:

* **The restroom:** A McDonald’s was nearby, and it seemed odd to stop at a department store just for a restroom.
* **The timing:** Their child was arriving home at 9:30 pm, but Frank said they left Massachusetts at 8:30 pm.
* **The house:** Virginia was very organized, but their home was left messy – the refrigerator was full, and the shades were open.
* **Evidence at home:** Police found blood matching Virginia’s type on a carpet and her hair under a doorstep.

Two of their three children suspected Frank was involved in her disappearance. Police believe Virginia was likely murdered at home, not in Maine. Despite investigations in both states, her case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected. Frank died later, and Virginia’s case remains a mystery.
