- Details of Disappearance:
- Wendy and Peggy, two friends from Palmview Elementary School in Florida, disappeared on December 29, 1969, after meeting at Pompano Beach. They went to the beach separately, and around 1:00 p.m., they walked to get ice cream. A store clerk saw them with a man who was described in detail: a Caucasian man in his late 20s, around six feet tall, with sandy hair, gray-blue eyes, a scar on his hand, and a distinctive nose. He drove a blue Chevrolet.
The girls were never seen again. Police first thought they’d drowned, but this was ruled out because nobody saw them in trouble in the water, their bodies weren’t found, and Wendy was a strong swimmer.
Two men became suspects:
* **Kenneth Guy Shilts:** A child molester whose coded notebook mentioned “Peggy and Wendy – Pompano Beach.” He was in the area, but he denied involvement, and police couldn’t prove it.
* **Gerard John Schaefer Jr.:** A serial killer linked to many other disappearances and murders. He denied involvement at first but later confessed in a letter (written in 1989). However, he was never charged with their deaths.
Despite investigations, Wendy and Peggy’s disappearance remains a mystery, and their bodies have never been found.
