- Details of Disappearance:
- On November 20, 2010, a man named Wamsganz disappeared in Lake Placid, New York. He quit his job at a diner and went hiking on the Adirondack Loj Trail without food, water, or warm clothes. Other hikers saw him that evening as it got dark, near Mercy Dam (about two miles into the trail). He vanished and was never seen again.
A few days later, rescuers found his green jacket on a trail leading to Avalanche Pass. That’s the only clue they ever found. The weather turned very cold after he disappeared, with temperatures below 10 degrees and snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Even so, his family still hopes he’s alive. The mystery of what happened to him remains unsolved.
