- On September 24, 1988, Hooks visited his parents in Florence, South Carolina. He said he and his boyfriend were going to Myrtle Beach for the weekend and would call when they returned. That night, his cousin saw him at a club. Hooks asked to stay at his cousin’s place, but his cousin had just moved and couldn’t. However, Hooks told his cousin’s roommate he was afraid of his boyfriend and worried about being hurt.
Hooks never called his parents. His sister called their house and spoke to the boyfriend, who said Hooks had left unexpectedly. Hooks disappeared and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. This was unusual for him; he never left without telling anyone.
His family says he had a difficult relationship with his boyfriend. While the boyfriend claimed he was innocent, he’s considered a suspect in Hooks’ disappearance. Police think foul play was involved, and Hooks’ family believes he is dead.
