- Details of Disappearance:
- On March 14, 2006, David Rotstein disappeared in Kauai, Hawaii. He was the best man at a wedding taking place on the property of his business partners, Aurora and Alan Dingwall, and their young son, Rowan. Also present were the wedding couple and another friend, Timothy Noonan.
That morning, after weeks of heavy rain, the old Kaloko Dam broke, releasing a huge flood that swept away everyone on the Dingwalls’ property, including Rotstein.
Only the bodies of the wedding couple (MacNees and Arroyo) and Rowan’s parents were recovered. Rotstein, Noonan, and Rowan are still missing and presumed dead.
The dam’s owner, a wealthy businessman named James Pflueger, was found to have illegally blocked the dam’s emergency overflow and never allowed government inspections, even though the law required them. He was charged with causing the disaster.
Pflueger eventually pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment. His company paid fines, but the money went to the state, not to the victims’ families. He received a short jail sentence but was released early due to health problems.
