- Details of Disappearance:
- On December 4, 2001, three experienced sailors and Eagle Scouts—Matt Shipley, Kyle Chapman, and Timothy Bennett—went sailing on Tuttle Creek Lake in Kansas. They left their shoes on the dock and never came back.
Two days later, their empty sailboat was found adrift, damaged, and with the sail still packed away. Bennett’s body was found nearby, but Shipley and Chapman were never found despite a big search. Authorities think they got into trouble on the water because of strong winds, even though the temperature was mild.
Shipley was a college student, musician, and lived on campus. He and Chapman are still missing.
