Details of Disappearance:

On April 4th, 2004, a young woman named Marcher went surfing near her home in Velzyland, Hawaii (a park on Oahu’s north shore). She’d recently moved there from Florida.

Around 8:45 am, she told her friends she was leaving the water. That was the last time anyone saw her. Her phone, purse, and medicine were left behind, but her surfboard was gone.

Four days later, her surfboard was found miles away, damaged. The leash connecting her to the board was cut, with unusual marks that might have been from a shark bite or coral. Police found nothing suspicious.

Because her belongings were left behind and the ocean conditions were calm, investigators think she may have had an accident at sea. Her family initially suspected foul play, but police don’t believe she was attacked.

Marcher was a bright, friendly person with big plans for her future in Hawaii. She was working, studying, and hoping to become a professional surfer, then a reporter or teacher. Sadly, despite searches, her body was never found. Her family held a memorial service for her later that year.
