Details of Disappearance:
On September 23, 1992, Susan Dinwiddie went to a U2 concert in Columbia, South Carolina, with friends. After the concert, they went to a nightclub called Jungle Jim’s. Around 1:30 am, a club employee saw Dinwiddie last. Her friends left around 1:00 am, thinking she had a ride home. She left her purse behind.

Dinwiddie’s father discovered she was missing at 6:15 am the next day. He reported her missing later that morning. Because she was a cautious person who didn’t like being alone, police suspected a kidnapping.

Investigators looked into Reinaldo Rivera, a man who confessed to killing four women in Georgia and was suspected in other deaths. Rivera lived in Columbia and studied at the University of South Carolina near where Dinwiddie was last seen. He was convicted of murdering a police officer in 2004. While police considered him a possible suspect in Dinwiddie’s disappearance, and also in the disappearance of another woman, Paula Merchant, they couldn’t connect him to either case and have never charged him.

Dinwiddie’s disappearance remains a mystery. She was a college graduate and planned to go to graduate school.
