- On December 1, 1979, Robert Morrison disappeared from Hammond, Indiana. He was a successful businessman, owning a stereo store, and was known in the local music scene.
That morning, police were called to his store because a suspicious white car with four men inside was seen parked outside. The car was gone when police arrived, but the store was unlocked, the cash register was open, and there was blood on the door and keys. The alarm was off, but there was no sign of forced entry.
At Morrison’s apartment, police found signs of a struggle: the place was ransacked, with bloodstains and a bloody snow shovel. Strangely, some expensive equipment was left untouched. Morrison and his white car (license plate: STEREO) were missing.
That same morning, a body was spotted in Lake Michigan. It was a badly beaten white male, only wearing a shirt and socks. A bloody pipe was found nearby. Unfortunately, police didn’t immediately retrieve the body, and it washed away before they could. An internal investigation later found two officers guilty of negligence.
Three days later, Morrison’s car was found in South Holland, Illinois, with blood inside and his driver’s license on the seat. Morrison himself was never found.
Adding to the mystery, Morrison had outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for debt lawsuits. Police investigated several people, but the case remains unsolved, considered a kidnapping and murder.
