- Details of Disappearance:
- Talia Marquez, president of a company called ClearGreen, vanished in Los Angeles in April 1998. ClearGreen was based on the teachings of Carlos Castaneda, a well-known author and spiritual leader. Marquez was a devoted follower of Castaneda, who had her and other followers use fake names and cut ties with their families.
Marquez even asked her mother for all family photos to destroy them and refused to speak to her dying father. Around the same time Castaneda died (in secret, his death wasn’t announced for months), Marquez disappeared. She took Castaneda’s ashes with her.
Four other women, also close followers of Castaneda, vanished that same month. One of them, Patricia Parin, was later found dead in Death Valley. The other three are still missing. There are rumors they all died by suicide, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
Marquez’s family in Puerto Rico has never stopped looking for her, and her disappearance remains a mystery.
