- Details of Disappearance:
- In 1984, Deborah, Harvey, and their son Sean disappeared from their San Francisco home. Harvey had advertised video equipment, and two men visited their apartment on July 25th. Deborah spoke to a friend on the phone, then said two men had arrived. A neighbor saw an Asian man leaving with a box, and an unknown car speeding away the next day. A mysterious caller told Harvey’s boss the family moved to Washington.
Police believe the Dubs family were victims of serial killers Charles Ng and Leonard Lake. Ng and Lake, who met through a survivalist magazine, ran a horrific compound where they held people captive, tortured and murdered them. They’re suspected of randomly targeting victims. Women were often raped and filmed before being killed; men and children were tortured.
Lake and Ng were caught shoplifting in 1985. Lake committed suicide by cyanide. Ng fled but was later caught in Canada. Ng was convicted of 11 murders in 1999, but claimed Lake was solely responsible. A receipt belonging to Harvey Dubs was found at Lake’s property, which contained the remains of multiple victims. The Dubs family’s bodies have never been found, but it’s believed they were killed at the compound. Ng and Lake are also suspected in the disappearances of three other men from San Francisco.
