- In November 1969, Curtiss went looking for gold in the Catalina Mountains near Tucson, Arizona, with his friend Brian. They got caught in a surprise winter storm on Mount Lemmon and got lost. Brian said Curtiss got bad leg cramps and couldn’t walk, so Brian left him to get help. Brian eventually came out of the mountains, but Curtiss was never found. Police searched for six days but couldn’t find him. They think he died from the cold, and they don’t suspect anyone did anything wrong. The case is still officially unsolved.
