- On February 9, 2013, around noon, Garlinghouse was near Lake Worth in Okeechobee, Florida. He and three friends rescued two girls from a strong ocean current (a riptide). He saved the girls, but then got into trouble himself and disappeared underwater. Despite a big search, he was never found. It’s believed he drowned. He had two children.
