Two days later, her blue Ford Tempo was found abandoned at an O’Charley’s restaurant. One employee thought he saw her there the night she disappeared, but others didn’t. Police think the car was left there to throw them off.

A witness claimed to see a woman who looked like Diane getting into a red 1980s pickup truck with a man with long red hair and a beard around 11 p.m. that night, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Bruce’s behavior after Diane vanished was suspicious. He wouldn’t cooperate with police, hired a lawyer quickly, and gave conflicting accounts of when he last saw her. Diane’s cousin said Bruce had threatened suicide if Diane divorced him and had harassed her at work. Although there was no history of violence between them, and Diane’s mother defended Bruce, police considered his actions strange.

Investigators believe Diane was murdered, but her case remains unsolved.
