- Erica, a child with special needs (learning disability and hearing problems), disappeared from her home in Salisbury, North Carolina on November 19, 2011. Her adoptive parents didn’t report her missing; her brother did, almost two years later. People who knew Erica said she was often abused and kept away from other kids. Her parents received money from the state to help care for her, but they kept getting the money even after she vanished. They were later caught and jailed for fraud because they took over $12,000 that they weren’t entitled to. In 2016, Erica’s remains were found buried in South Carolina. How she died is still unknown.
