Details of Disappearance:
On January 26, 1997, Hurst left his home in Oxford, Alabama around 9 pm, heading to a Super Bowl party in Anniston. He was driving a blue 1990 Dodge Caravan (license plate 11FDH99). He never arrived.

His former wife was the last to see him. She found out he was missing when a friend called from the party. His van was later found at a Georgia Welcome Center.

A neighbor, Jackie Stovall, became a prime suspect. Stovall had a violent past, including allegedly hurting Hurst’s brother. Six months after Hurst vanished, Stovall was arrested for trying to hire someone to kill Barry Jackson, a friend of Hurst’s. Stovall believed Hurst and Jackson robbed his home, stealing a large amount of cash, guns, and jewelry. Stovall claimed he’d already killed the other robbers, starting with Hurst, then another man named Daryl “Monkey” Adams (who was later found shot dead).

Stovall pleaded guilty to the attempted murder-for-hire of Jackson and was released. However, in 2014, Stovall and another man, Kenneth Kemp, were charged with Hurst’s murder. Authorities believe Hurst suffered extreme injuries and that a recent discovery led to the charges. Both men are awaiting trial. Police strongly suspect foul play in Hurst’s disappearance.
