- Lavelle disappeared in Alaska in 1985. He and a friend, Michael Schertz, were flown to a remote area on July 7th and were expected back a week later. Schertz returned on July 17th, but Lavelle was gone, and Schertz couldn’t explain what happened to him. Even after a big search, no one ever found Lavelle.
