- Details of Disappearance:
- Two men, Lansaw and Ronald Gilbert, vanished on September 18, 1984, after leaving Terre Haute, Indiana, to collect a $2,800 drug debt from Jerome Board in Paris, Illinois. They were never seen again.
Years later, in 2000, Jerome and his brother Herbert were put on trial for their murders. The prosecution claimed the brothers, along with a man named Dale Peterson, killed Lansaw and Gilbert on their father’s land to avoid paying the debt. Jerome’s ex-wife testified that the brothers and Peterson ambushed and killed the men, then cut up and burned their bodies. However, this testimony only came out in 1999, and there was no physical evidence to back it up. Peterson had also died by suicide before the trial.
Because of the lack of evidence, the Board brothers were found not guilty. Even though no bodies were ever found, police suspect the men were murdered.
