Details of Disappearance:
Haleigh, a fifth-grader, and her mother, Kimberly, vanished on June 21, 2007, from their isolated log cabin in Alabama. Their driveway was gated, making the cabin accessible only on foot.

Kimberly briefly tried to call a friend that day, but the connection was bad. She promised to call back but never did. A week later, her coworkers reported her missing.

Kimberly’s husband, Barry, Haleigh’s stepfather, told police they left in a white van with a lot of cash, possibly heading to Montana. This is highly unusual, as Kimberly was a dedicated worker and had no reason to leave suddenly.

Barry has a criminal history, including convictions for receiving stolen property. After police searched his property, they found illegal guns, leading to his arrest and a surprisingly long prison sentence – ten years, instead of the usual 12-18 months – because the judge found him extremely dangerous. Witnesses said Barry boasted about past murders and how to dispose of bodies.

Crucially, Barry’s first wife, Michelle, also disappeared mysteriously in 1997 and was later found murdered. Barry initially claimed Michelle had simply left, just as he claimed Kimberly and Haleigh did. Years later, he was convicted of her murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Police found blood in Barry’s truck and on a hatchet, although the source wasn’t identified. While he’s never been charged with Kimberly and Haleigh’s disappearance, he remains the prime suspect. The case remains unsolved.
