- Details of Disappearance:
- Ricardo Herrera vanished from Las Vegas in May 2010. The last confirmed sighting was on May 14th, when his wife, Johanna, saw him at their home with police while she retrieved belongings. He’d earlier reported his wife and their twin sons missing (they were later found safe).
Herrera had recently been treated for mental health issues, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and his wife said he’d been acting strangely and aggressively before she left with the children. That evening, he called Johanna, expressing his love for her and the kids. This was the last time anyone heard from him.
A month later, his car – a white Toyota 4Runner – was discovered on Mount Charleston, a location he’d never visited before. Inside were his suitcase, medication, and other belongings. Over a year later, a box containing his financial documents and credit cards was found high up on the mountain, a place authorities believed he couldn’t have reached due to his asthma and lack of hiking experience.
Herrera was close to his sisters, but he’d stopped contacting them before his disappearance. He’d lived in Las Vegas most of his life, worked in casinos, and his family is convinced he wouldn’t have left without saying goodbye. His disappearance remains a mystery.
