Details of Disappearance:
In August 2009, Isaac and Rebecca Savoie disappeared from their home in Franklin, Tennessee. Their mother, Noriko, took them without their father Christopher’s permission. Noriko, who is Japanese, was given a warrant for parental kidnapping.

Christopher and Noriko divorced in the US, but remained legally married in Japan. They agreed the children would live in Tennessee. Although Noriko received a large divorce settlement, she wanted to move back to Japan, worried her kids were losing their Japanese heritage.

Despite a court order, Noriko took the children to Japan for a summer vacation and never returned. She secretly moved their belongings and money to Japan, then fled with them. Even though the court gave Christopher full custody, he couldn’t get them back because they were in Japan.

Christopher traveled to Japan and briefly reunited with his children before being arrested by Japanese police. He was jailed for 17 days, and has had no contact with Isaac and Rebecca since. While their location is known, they are considered missing because they are not with their legally appointed guardian, their father. This case has received international attention, but Christopher fears he may not see his children again until they are adults.
