- On August 23, 2001, a man named Gamache went sailing from New Smyrna Beach, Florida, but disappeared. He left the marina at noon, planning a short trip, but his boat was found empty and adrift 25 miles offshore the next day. The boat was out of gas, its sails were down, and two of his bags were gone. A huge search found nothing.
Gamache had big problems: a messy divorce, car vandalism charges, debts, and missed alimony payments. He was due in court the week after he vanished. Some people think he ran away, maybe even to Cuba, to avoid his problems. But there’s no proof of that. His disappearance remains a mystery.
