Details of Disappearance:

Jaquilla, a little girl, disappeared from her home in Wichita, Kansas on September 5, 2001. She was last seen in her bed around 12:30 a.m., but found missing at 3:00 a.m. Nobody has seen or heard from her since.

Jaquilla lived with her young mother, Eureka, her younger brother, two uncles, and her great-grandmother. Her mother was only 14 when she had Jaquilla, so her great-grandmother mostly took care of her. Jaquilla had just started preschool the day before she disappeared. That night, her mom was at a friend’s house, and her great-grandmother was watching the children.

The house had a broken back door that wouldn’t lock. There were no signs of a struggle or forced entry, and the family dog didn’t bark, which is unusual. Police aren’t sure if she was kidnapped.

After Jaquilla vanished, social workers took her brother away because they were worried about the living conditions in the house. He wasn’t returned to his mother until three years later. Jaquilla’s mother still believes she’s alive. She remembers Jaquilla as a very chatty girl who loved colorful hair clips and a special doll.

The police haven’t solved the mystery of what happened to Jaquilla.
