Details of Disappearance:
Van Gelderen vanished from Atlanta, Georgia on August 19, 2017. She was house-sitting for her parents, who were in Canada. She last texted a friend at 2:00 AM, saying she was going to bed. That was the last anyone heard from her.

She left her parents’ house with the lights and TV on, their cat unfed, and strangely, a valuable family tapestry missing. Only her two cell phones were taken; everything else – makeup, shoes, chargers – was left behind. Her car, a dark blue 2010 Mazda 6 (license plate PWH5902), also disappeared.

Her phone last showed activity near Fairburn, Georgia at 7:45 AM, but her car was seen in a different part of Atlanta around the same time. Two weeks later, her car was found abandoned, low on gas, with the driver’s seat pushed back – suggesting a taller driver than her. Her suitcase, shoes, wallet, and glasses were inside, along with some unknown person’s belongings. Her phones are still missing.

Van Gelderen had a somewhat troubled past. She’d recently lost her job and was charged with theft. She had a strained relationship with her parents, who disapproved of her friends and believed she stole money to help them. She’d moved out and secretly got a second phone to keep her conversations with her friends private. Her boyfriend said they broke up the night before she disappeared and claimed she was a prostitute and drug addict, although there’s no proof of this beyond his statement.

While there’s no evidence of foul play, her family fears she’s been kidnapped. Her case remains a mystery.
