- On August 7, 1983, Warren went for a walk in Toms River, New Jersey. He told his wife he was walking to Ocean City College and would be back in an hour. His wife suggested he drive, but he walked anyway.
People saw him on his walk: a security guard at 9:15 a.m. and a jogger at 9:50 a.m. He never came home. His wife reported him missing at 11:00 a.m. after he missed a party.
Police dogs followed his scent to a pond, then lost it about a mile from the college. His wife found two sets of footprints: one going toward the college, one going home.
Warren had recently retired from teaching engineering. Before that, he worked designing military equipment, but police found no link between that work and his disappearance.
Warren was a healthy, athletic man and always told people if he’d be late. His disappearance is considered suspicious and remains a mystery.
