- Details of Disappearance:
- Kali’s mom, Sandra, took Kali to the Dominican Republic in December 2007, saying it was a short visit. But she didn’t bring Kali back in February 2008. Kali’s dad, Dhanika, went to court. They made an agreement: Sandra would let Dhanika see Kali via webcam and bring Kali to the US for visits. Sandra broke the agreement, letting Dhanika see Kali only a few times, never overnight. She refused to go to court.
A judge gave custody of Kali to Dhanika and ordered Sandra to return her. Sandra didn’t. Dhanika hasn’t seen Kali since. Sandra and Kali are believed to be living in Santo Domingo with Sandra’s parents. Dhanika is trying to get Kali back using an international treaty, but the Dominican Republic refuses to help, saying Sandra had the right to move there and that because she and Dhanika weren’t married, he has no right to say where Kali lives. Even though people know where Kali is, she’s considered missing because she’s not with her legal guardian, her father.
