- Details of Disappearance:
- Katherine disappeared on December 29, 2004, from her estranged husband Charles’s farm in Sanger, Texas. Charles told police Katherine drove away around 10 p.m., but her car was found in the driveway the next morning, with the keys inside, and she was gone. They had been arguing, and Katherine had said she might not return.
Katherine’s daughter reported her missing on January 3rd, 2005, delayed by Charles who said Katherine just needed time alone. Katherine, a kindergarten teacher, had filed for divorce from Charles in May 2004, and a restraining order was issued against Charles the following month. Their marriage was troubled, and Charles didn’t want the divorce.
Charles initially cooperated with the police but then hired a lawyer, refused a lie detector test, and blocked a home search (police needed a warrant). His story didn’t match the facts, including claims of calling Katherine’s phone that were proven false. He became the main suspect.
Five years later, in November 2009, Charles was arrested for Katherine’s murder. Though there was no body, he was convicted in 2011, the prosecution arguing he killed her to avoid splitting assets in the divorce. He received a 25-year sentence. However, the conviction was overturned in 2014 due to insufficient evidence.
Since her disappearance, Katherine hasn’t used her bank account, Social Security number, or phone. She never had a passport. Because she was a responsible person who wouldn’t disappear without warning, police suspect foul play.
