- In May 1992, Donna McVeigh vanished after getting into a car in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. She was struggling with drug use and prostitution, and had recently left an abusive husband. Her family didn’t report her missing for six weeks.
Police suspect she was murdered. While they have leads, no one has been arrested. Sadly, several other women disappeared or were murdered in the same area around the same time. Some of these cases were solved—a serial killer confessed to two murders, and another man was convicted of a separate killing—but others, including McVeigh’s, remain mysteries. One unsolved case involves Meaghan Paul, who, like McVeigh, worked in prostitution. It’s unclear if the two cases are connected.
McVeigh’s family thinks she was killed and buried near the Blackstone River. Her brother even found what he thought were her clothes there. After her disappearance, her mother received threatening anonymous calls.
Despite all this, Donna McVeigh’s disappearance remains an unsolved case.
