Details of Disappearance:
Kendrick, a young boy, moved in with his father, Roderick Fountain, stepmother, and two half-siblings a few months before he vanished from their Houston, Texas apartment in April 2006. His father said Kendrick disappeared while he briefly went to do laundry. Initially, police investigated the possibility of a stranger kidnapping after witnesses reported seeing Kendrick with an unidentified man at a nearby bus stop.

However, suspicion quickly fell on the father. Fountain gave inconsistent statements to police and couldn’t explain his activities in the hours before Kendrick’s disappearance. He was arrested for filing a false police report and later charged with injuring Kendrick (the boy had bruises). A shotgun, illegally owned by Fountain due to his extensive criminal record, was found in the apartment.

Fountain had a long history of felony convictions, including violent crimes. Although he’d been accused of murder before (but not convicted), investigators believed he killed Kendrick. His mother, Keyanna Jackson, initially thought a stranger had abducted Kendrick, but later suspected Fountain. She admitted to witnessing Fountain abusing Kendrick but kept them together anyway.

Three years after Kendrick disappeared, Fountain was charged with his murder. The prosecution argued he unintentionally killed Kendrick during a beating. Testimony from former cellmates claimed Fountain confessed to killing Kendrick and disposing of the body in Louisiana. Despite Fountain’s claim of innocence and the lack of a body, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. To this day, Kendrick’s body has never been found.
