- Details of Disappearance:
- Kyron Horman, a second-grader, vanished from his Portland, Oregon school on June 4, 2010. His stepmother, Terri, said she drove him to Skyline Elementary for a science fair. They arrived around 8:00 am, and a witness saw them at Kyron’s frog exhibit at 8:15 am. Terri claims she left at 8:45 am after the school bell rang.
Kyron never came home, and Terri reported him missing at 3:45 pm. A massive search—one of Oregon’s largest—turned up nothing. Kyron was described as shy and unlikely to wander off.
Police quickly shifted the investigation from a missing child case to a criminal one, focusing suspicion on Terri. Phone records showed she wasn’t where she claimed to be that day.
Things got stranger:
* **The Landscaper:** A landscaper said Terri had offered him money to kill her husband, Kaine, months before Kyron disappeared.
* **The 911 Calls:** Terri made two 911 calls the day Kaine moved out—one about threats, one about custody.
* **The Sting:** Police set up a sting operation, and Terri called 911 when the landscaper demanded money.
* **Divorce and Restraining Order:** Kaine filed for divorce and a restraining order against Terri, believing she was responsible for Kyron’s disappearance. He also accused her of trying to kidnap their daughter, Kiara.Terri’s friend, DeDe Spicher, was also questioned. Kaine claimed Terri had postpartum depression, was an alcoholic, and had a personality disorder. Kyron’s biological mother, Desiree, also sued Terri, seeking $10 million in damages.
Despite focusing on Terri, police haven’t named a suspect. Kaine believes Terri harmed Kyron to hurt him, possibly with help from someone else. The case remains unsolved, and Kyron’s parents still hope he’s alive.
