- In November 2009, Murillo, who was experiencing a mental health crisis (paranoia, delusions, and hallucinations), ran away from his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, without shoes or a coat in cold weather. He wasn’t seen again until 2019, when his body was found behind the freezer units of a former supermarket, No Frills, where he used to work.
The supermarket had closed in 2016, and workers removing the freezers found Murillo’s remains in a narrow space (18 inches) between the freezers and the wall. There were no injuries, suggesting no foul play.
Employees sometimes hid on top of the freezers for breaks. It’s thought Murillo may have climbed up there, fallen behind the units, and been unable to get out. The loud freezer motors likely prevented anyone from hearing him. His death was ruled accidental.
