Details of Disappearance:
Chapin disappeared on Valentine’s Day 2006 from her apartment in Missouri. Her fiancé said she was gone when he returned home that evening. Her mother claimed Chapin went to Florida, but she was never seen or heard from again. The police weren’t involved until years later.

The case is suspicious because:

* **The apartment:** After Chapin vanished, the apartment showed signs of a struggle—a broken window and a large, unremovable stain on the carpet.
* **Her mother’s lack of cooperation:** Chapin’s mother, Sandra, has never helped the investigation. She gave conflicting accounts of Chapin’s whereabouts.
* **Her stepfather’s disappearance:** Chapin’s stepfather, Gary, vanished in 1999. Chapin later confessed to Gary’s brother that she and Sandra were involved in his death, claiming they burned his body. This confession was recorded, but Chapin refused to speak to police after her mother hired a lawyer.
* **Sandra’s past:** Sandra had a troubled relationship with Gary, and was having an affair at the time of his disappearance. She later married her lover, Kristopher. Kristopher was even charged (though later cleared) with conspiring to murder Gary. A civil lawsuit later found Sandra and Kristopher responsible for Gary’s death, awarding $7 million in damages.

Chapin left behind her belongings and young son, who was eventually adopted by Sandra. There’s no evidence she’s alive. While it’s not certain, both Chapin’s and Gary’s disappearances are believed to be suspicious and potentially linked to the actions of Sandra Klemp and those around her.
