Details of Disappearance:
On Christmas Eve 2002, Mari disappeared. She was last seen outside a Subway restaurant in Louisiana. Investigators think she was kidnapped. Her belongings were left behind, suggesting robbery wasn’t the motive. A truck sped away from the scene, caught on blurry security footage.

Mari was going to visit her husband in prison; he’d been convicted of bribery. Police don’t think his crimes are connected to Mari’s disappearance.

Police suspect Mari’s kidnapping might be linked to Derrick Todd Lee, a serial killer. Lee owned a similar truck, and his phone records put him near the Subway at the time. DNA evidence didn’t connect them, but many still believe Lee was involved.

Mari was never found. Lee was never charged in her case. She was declared legally dead in 2004. Police believe she was murdered.
