- Distinguishing Characteristics:
- Distinguishing Characteristics Hispanic female. Brown hair, brown eyes. Hernandez had blonde highlights in her hair at the time of her disappearance. She has a red heart tattooed on her upper left arm and her ears are pierced. Her nickname is Mari.
- Details of Disappearance:
- On January 16, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas, Hernandez disappeared. She was last seen around 8:30 a.m. after dropping off her youngest child at daycare. She was going to meet her children’s father to discuss child support. She never showed up.
Her car, a green 1996 Ford Mustang (license plate F19SBT), was found abandoned at a nearby strip mall. There were no clues about what happened to her. Although the strip mall was close to her apartment, her family says she wouldn’t have gone there.
Hernandez was involved in a custody battle with the father of her oldest son, who wanted full custody. She had three children, who are now with their grandparents. The father of her two younger children says he’s innocent but won’t take a lie detector test. The father of her oldest son is still fighting for custody.
Police suspect foul play. Hernandez reportedly told her mother that if she didn’t come back, it meant she’d been killed. The case is still unsolved. There’s some confusion about her last sighting; some say it was at her home on Rivas Street.
