- On December 29, 2016, Megan Casey went to a Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game with her father, Brian, and their friends, the Flemings (John, Suzanne, and their two sons, Jack and Andrew). After the game, they took off in a private plane piloted by John Fleming.
Three minutes after leaving Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, the plane disappeared from radar and crashed into Lake Erie, just two miles from the airport. It was headed to Columbus.
Investigators said the pilot likely got lost and was too tired. Unfortunately, Megan, Suzanne Fleming, and Andrew Fleming were never found, but they are believed to have died in the crash. Megan was a nursing student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and had recently graduated high school in Cleveland.
