- Details of Disappearance:
- On July 19, 2006, a woman named Metheny disappeared. She was last seen around 8:00 a.m. after dropping her three kids off at daycare in Belle, West Virginia. She planned to get her school transcripts to enroll at West Virginia State University. Her last phone call was at 9:00 a.m. to a car repair shop. A voicemail was accessed from her phone at 9:30 a.m., possibly by her.
That evening, she was reported missing because she didn’t pick up her children. Four days later, her minivan was found abandoned in a rough part of Charleston, West Virginia. Her purse and phone were gone, but the van was otherwise untouched—strangely clean of fingerprints.
A witness reported seeing a young woman struggling to escape a red SUV the same day Metheny disappeared, yelling “What about my babies?” Police think this might have been Metheny.
In 2013, a new lead emerged. A woman, Cindy Creathers, admitted to helping her boyfriend, Joey Keith Jeffrey (a drug dealer), kidnap and torture another woman. Jeffrey mentioned Metheny during this confession, saying he’d put her “in the same hole” as his other victim. Jeffrey is considered a suspect but hasn’t been charged in Metheny’s disappearance. He was convicted of other violent crimes in 2014 and won’t be eligible for parole for 24 years.
Metheny was described as a quiet person who sometimes used drugs but wasn’t an addict. She wanted to be a nurse and was saving money for a house. She lived in two places: Belle and Campbells Creek, West Virginia. Her family believes she was harmed because it’s unlike her to leave her children. The case remains unsolved.
