- Details of Disappearance:
- Monique disappeared from Moore, Oklahoma on June 2, 1992. A neighbor saw her getting into a blue pickup truck driven by a white man. She’s never been seen again.
Monique had a difficult past, including abuse by her biological father (who’s now in prison for sex crimes). In 1992, she lived with her mother (Candyce), stepfather (Charles “Chuck” Daniels), and several siblings. Her mom and some siblings were away on a church trip when she vanished. When they returned, Chuck simply said she was gone. The usually clean house was a mess.
Monique’s parents didn’t report her missing, claiming she’d run away. This wasn’t the first time; she’d run away once before after being forced to have an abortion.
Later, letters supposedly from Monique arrived, claiming she’d married, had a baby, and was living in Alaska. But these letters, and a phone call, were later revealed to be faked by her younger sister, Angelique, at Chuck’s behest.
Angelique, who ran away herself in 1994 and accused her parents of abuse (to which they pleaded no contest), confessed that Chuck made her write the letters and stage the phone call to reassure her mother, who was reportedly suicidal. Chuck admitted to this as well. Only then did Candyce file a missing person report.
The family’s story is inconsistent. One brother said Monique and Chuck argued the day she disappeared; he saw her sitting motionless before they left for a fishing trip. Another brother gave a different account of her demeanor that day. There are also allegations of child abuse within the family. Police dug up the family’s old yard, but found nothing. Monique’s case remains unsolved, and her parents refuse to cooperate further.
