- Details of Disappearance:
- Cearo disappeared in Seattle on March 30, 2009. She’d been arrested two days earlier for breaking a court order that kept her away from her boyfriend, Roosevelt Montgomery Jr. Even though Montgomery had a restraining order against her, she’d moved in with him after being evicted from her apartment.
Montgomery picked her up from jail on the 30th. Later that day, Cearo visited her mother, then several friends. She was bruised and scared, asking for money. That night, she was seen at a club without Montgomery. He called, demanding to know her location, and she was last seen getting into his truck with him.
Witnesses claimed she was shot later that night, but police couldn’t confirm it. Her pastor reported her missing a few days later because her mother, who had outstanding warrants, didn’t want to contact the police herself. The pastor was also worried because Cearo hadn’t picked up her government assistance check.
On April 9th, Montgomery was arrested for stealing a brand new truck. He’d stolen it the day Cearo disappeared and had been driving her around in it. He claimed he didn’t know where she was. The stolen truck was damaged, filled with trash, and contained Cearo’s personal documents. Police believe the truck might be connected to her disappearance, but it was cleaned before they could fully examine it.
Montgomery implicated another man, Timothy White Sr., but White was in jail at the time. White did say that Cearo had visited him in jail before she disappeared, bruised and claiming Montgomery had beaten her.
Montgomery has a long criminal record and is considered dangerous. He allegedly bragged about killing Cearo, but there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him. Cearo hasn’t been seen or heard from since; her government benefits stopped, and her phone goes straight to voicemail. Police believe she was murdered, but her body has never been found. Her case remains unsolved.
