Details of Disappearance:
Seven-year-old Patrick disappeared from his foster home in Brooklyn, New York on January 22, 2010. He’d been living there for only three weeks, after being removed from his mother, Jennifer Rodriguez, due to neglect allegations.

Patrick told his foster mother he was running away to his mom. He was last seen taking out the trash and never returned.

His mother, who lived in Staten Island, knew where Patrick’s foster home was. She was even accused by her aunt of threatening to kidnap him. When Patrick disappeared, a judge ordered Rodriguez to bring him to court, but she couldn’t, claiming she didn’t know where he was. She passed a lie detector test and was released from jail.

Police investigated many family members, even those living far away, and some relatives accused each other of hiding Patrick.

Rodriguez sued the city, the child services agency, and others, claiming Patrick was wrongly taken from her and placed in a bad foster home where he couldn’t communicate with his foster mother due to language differences. She also said he’d been unhappy there. While most of the lawsuit was dismissed, she was allowed to sue some individuals and agencies. In 2013, she added a claim for his wrongful death.

The case settled for $6 million in 2018. The money will help find Patrick and support him if he’s found alive.

Patrick’s disappearance remains a mystery, but it’s thought he might still be in the Brooklyn area.
