- On December 27, 1999, in Sumter County, South Carolina, a man named McCrary went into the woods near U.S. 521 and Ellerby Road between 7 and 8 pm. His friends said he went to get some clay. He disappeared and was never seen again.
His nephew was arrested the following year and accused of killing him, but the charges were dropped because there wasn’t enough evidence. The mystery of what happened to McCrary remains unsolved.
