- Details of Disappearance:
- Bernadette Caruso disappeared on September 27, 1986, after leaving her job at Shaw’s Jewelry Store in a Baltimore County mall. She got into her car around 5:05 PM. She’d told a coworker she was meeting her estranged husband, Michael (a police officer), to talk.
Bernadette never returned home and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Her car – a gray-green 1982 Chevrolet Cavalier with Maryland license plate FYW-097 – is also missing.
Bernadette and Michael were separated and fighting over custody of their three-year-old daughter (who was with relatives the day Bernadette disappeared). Michael was later fired from the police force for abusing a prisoner, and witnesses say he often threatened Bernadette. While he’s never been charged with her disappearance, police suspect foul play because of these circumstances and because her vanishing was completely out of character.
Bernadette lived on Rustico Road in Carrollwood, Maryland. The case remains unsolved.
