- Zakia disappeared in October 2002. Her family hasn’t heard from her since. She lived in Tukwila, Washington, worked at a Seattle bank, and left all her belongings at home. Her car was found abandoned a week later.
Before she vanished, Zakia reported that her husband of 11 years had sexually assaulted her. She got a temporary court order to protect herself from him, but disappeared two days before a hearing for a permanent order. While her husband isn’t officially a suspect, he gave police conflicting stories about where he was when she disappeared. A bank teller said they were together wiring money to Zakia’s family in Bangladesh just days before she was last seen.
Zakia’s credit cards and phone haven’t been used since. She had been in the US for six years and was planning to become a citizen. Police don’t think she left willingly, but haven’t solved the mystery of what happened to her.
