He has an unfinished tattoo of a black dragon on his upper right arm, a faint one-inch vertical scar on his forehead between his eyes, and a mole on his neck. LaBau’s left ear has previously been pierced.
- Details of Disappearance:
- On February 23, 1999, LaBau disappeared. He told his mom he was going to Townsend, Montana, with a friend to check out a classic car he wanted to buy, and planned to return home to Helena that same day. He withdrew several thousand dollars in cash from the bank before leaving – this was the last time anyone saw him for sure.
His friend’s story keeps changing: first, he said he dropped LaBau off near his apartment; then, he claimed LaBau got a ride to Butte. Police never found the car owner (rumored to be a rancher). LaBau missed a doctor’s appointment and left money and uncashed paychecks behind. His red 1976 Chevy truck (license plate 5T31420) vanished with him.
Although there’s no proof of a crime, LaBau’s family thinks he’s dead. Leaving his baby daughter, his close mother, and his beloved dog would be very unlike him. He was a Helena High graduate and worked as a cook. His mother had him declared legally dead before she passed away from cancer in 2007. The mystery of his disappearance remains unsolved.
