Details of Disappearance:
On December 18, 2006, a young woman named Fischer disappeared after a fight with her boyfriend, Michael Burroughs, in his apartment in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Fischer had no job, car, driver’s license, or permanent home; she lived a transient life. Her parents reported her missing on December 28th because she hadn’t contacted them for Christmas – unusual for her. They described her as naive and easily influenced.

Burroughs initially said Fischer left after their argument. However, in October 2010, he confessed to killing her. He claimed she stole drugs from him, and he strangled her. He hid her body in his apartment for days before disposing of it.

Although police suspected foul play from the start, they didn’t suspect Burroughs until his confession. He was charged with murder but initially declared unfit to stand trial due to mental illness. After treatment, he pleaded guilty and received a 31-year prison sentence. Fischer’s disappearance was completely out of character, and her two young children were in foster care at the time.
