Details of Disappearance:
On October 31, 1955, two-year-old Steven disappeared from outside a supermarket near his Long Island, New York home. His mom briefly left him and his baby sister in a stroller while she went inside to buy bread. When she returned, Steven was gone, but his sister was found nearby.

Someone later sent ransom notes demanding increasingly large amounts of money for Steven’s return, but the person was a fake. Police investigated whether Steven was the “Boy in the Box,” an unidentified child found dead in Philadelphia a few years later. Although they had similar appearances, DNA testing in 2003 proved they weren’t the same child.

Steven’s family was originally from Iowa, and moved back there after his father left the Air Force. Despite investigations and a false claim in 2009, Steven’s disappearance remains a mystery. His case is still unsolved.
