- In September 1958, A.J. Jr. and his sister Myrisha disappeared in Goliad, Texas. Their father, A.J. Sr., who had a history of abusing their mother, Jewel, took them for a Saturday visit and never returned them.
A friend, William Randle Jr., was with A.J. Sr. that day. They drove around in Randle’s car, even stopping to buy lard. A.J. Sr. then left Randle, taking the children with him. When he returned, the children were gone. A.J. Sr. acted nervous and told Randle not to talk about a fight he’d had.
The next day, A.J. Sr. called a minister, hinting that he’d killed his children and planned to kill himself. His body was later found in Randle’s car, a suicide. He left a note saying he’d buried the children, but their bodies were never found.
Jewel remarried and had more children, but she died in 2013. Her children from her second marriage continue to search for A.J. Jr. and Myrisha, holding out hope they might still be alive. The case remains unsolved.
