- Details of Disappearance:
- Laster disappeared in South Carolina on September 3, 2011. She was hiding from her abusive boyfriend, Freddie Grant, after leaving him. A friend warned her not to go to church because she feared Grant would find her. Laster was never seen again. Her family reported her missing six months later, in March 2012.
Later, in June 2013, Grant confessed to kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and murdering 15-year-old Gabrielle Swainson. He led police to her body. Grant was already in prison for a weapons charge, and he received an additional 30-year sentence for Swainson’s murder. He’s not expected to be released until 2043.
Police suspect Grant was involved in Laster’s disappearance. She had been badly beaten by him many times, even while pregnant. However, there’s not enough evidence to charge him with her disappearance, and the case remains unsolved. Laster had a daughter whom she was still involved with despite not having custody. She was from Florida, and her aunt, her legal guardian, lived in Alabama at the time she went missing.
