Details of Disappearance:

Aferdita disappeared on February 26, 2001, in Auburn Hills, Michigan. She’d told her sister she was meeting her ex-husband, Binak, and their children at a movie theater. Security cameras showed her getting into another car and driving away. She never returned.

Aferdita was reported missing when she didn’t show up for work. Her car was found at the movie theater, but her phone, purse, and an extra bullet from her gun were inside; the gun itself was gone.

Binak and Aferdita had a troubled history. They divorced in 1998, and Binak had custody of their children. Aferdita wanted more time with them, and Binak allegedly threatened to kill her if she tried to take them away. He left for Kosovo (a country in Europe) shortly after Aferdita vanished.

Over the years, Binak was arrested multiple times in Kosovo for assaulting Aferdita and for her murder, but Kosovo refused to send him back to the US to face charges. In 2019, he was arrested again, and extradition seemed likely this time. However, he committed suicide in a Kosovar jail before that could happen.

Aferdita’s body has never been found, and her disappearance is considered a likely murder, although unsolved.
